David Dvorin (Chico, CA) is an Emmy-nominated composer, arranger, performer, and music producer. He has composed music for film, video game, and television projects, and has worked with the Kronos Quartet and renowned composer Terry Riley. He is currently composing for concert works. In addition to his musical activities, David helped develop the education market for eMagic, Inc. (the original developer of Logic) and Apple Computer. A frequent presenter at music technology conferences, David is currently a professor of music composition and electronic music at California State University, Chico.

This is the book you want

This book comes with very nicely prepared Logic files to follow along with almost every chapter. Dvorin covers just about everything that Logic can do at a reasonable pace, and he adds expert advice throughout for speeding up workflow and getting the most out of the DAW.

Note that not much has changed in this book from the previous version, "Logic Pro 9 Advanced Music Production."

It has been a terrible experience!

I bought this book new from Amazon and the access code for the digital content doesn't work! When I enter it, it tells me the code is already in use! If you've used this kind of book before, you know that the digital lesson content is integral part of the learning process. i contacted the publisher and they first tried to tell me that Amazon was who was responsible. They honestly seemed clueless and didn't know what to do except point the finger away from themselves. It has been a terrible experience!

Loved these characters and what an ending!

I don’t usually start a series with the third book and I worried I wouldn’t be able to follow the story and enjoy it. That was not the case with Retaliation.

I quickly became immersed in Cordelia’s story and as I got attached to the characters all I was thinking was, I have to read the other books.

It’s been a year and a half since Code Uprising was deactivated and things are back to normal, as much as they can be in a supernatural world.

Cordelia now works for King Sebastian and her romance with the sexy Fay, Jagger, is going strong. The human world is safe from further attacks by Sebastian’s now missing power hungry daughter, Katerina.

But something new is starting to happen. A Haiku is left at a gruesome scene involving the kings assistant that may be connected to Katerina. A school is attacked in Japan, leaving all humans dead and another occurs in the US with casualties over a thousand.

A cloaked figure supplies GRIP with a formula they suspect is targeted towards humans. Could it be Katrina’s doing? And why would she only be targeting humans?

The council has a policy of not getting involved in human matters but they may have to change that if they are being attacked by a supernatural entity. While the humans are unaware of their existence, that may change.

Imogen has created a complex world with many strong voiced characters. While I joined this series late, I was provided with enough background to easily follow their stories and connect with past ones.

There are terrorists, spies, all kinds of supernatural beings and humans co-mingling to get to the bottom of the attacks and the action steps as the attacks escalate.

This book came across as believable. You could take out the supernatural element and have a hack of a good action thriller, but the added otherworldly characters and world made it much more interesting and unpredictable.

I’m sure the many that have read the first two books in the Bonfire Chronicles will love this next installment and those that haven’t will want to read them after this great follow up.

Imogen Rose has done it again! Not only could I not put this book down I was intrigued and amused through the whole thing. I love this story and Cordelia and Jagger have stolen my heart. I can't wait for the next book..the ending of this one left me screaming out loud! The world Imogen created with her Bonfire Chronicles series is unlike any other and I love it.

If I get to the end of a book and i am completely speechless, then the author did an amazing job. Imogen Rose has done it again. She has a way of keeping her readers interested throughout the whole book and then giving us everything we want and more in a story. I was really impressed. I definitely recommend her to anyone who loves a good story with lots of twists and cliff hangers that will lead you to wanting more.

Once i finished the book i was completely speechless. How could you end it on the cliff hanger like that i mean holy sweet alien babies!!!!!1 Anyway back to the story. They plot was well planned out and you can see how all the characters have matured. I was great seeing how much Faustine has grown into her now roll. (of course i cant say much cause i don't want to give anything away)

Cordelia is my favorite character out of the whole book. Even though the number one rule it TRUST NO ONE, you can tell she does and she loves Jagger. I just wish there was a little bit more interaction between the two. I'm hoping we get a lot more of that and with how the book ended I have no doubt on my mind we will get loads more.

Faustine has a lot more growing up to do and it would be fun to see how her a Ryker develops and hopefully she can get over her morphing while she kisses him. I cant stop laughing when that happens. She has matured a lot, but she did get on my nerves some of the time. She needs to realize that other people can help out and do things. its not all about her. I understand where she is coming from but definitely has more maturing to do.

The story had tons of twist and turns. I just couldn't get enough of it, I wanted more. I cant wait for the next book to come out.

The three-part Bible series is great. Keep in mind none of the stones are duplicated from one book to another, so buying #3 does NOT mean you get everything in 1 and 2. You "need" all three, which gives you upwards of 750-800 stone descriptions in total.

I wish I had realized that there is one other review here for the Kindle version and it clearly states there are no pictures. If I had realized that I probably wouldn't have purchased this at all. It will be useful for looking up attributes of different stones/crystals but that's it. I'll have to go elsewhere for any help identifying stones.

A great place to start!

This is truly the ideal starting place for anyone who doesn't have a clue about landing page optimization. The categories are simple and to the point, and the action steps within the scope of virtually anyone. There are of course many other books that go into much greater detail about Landing Page Optimization, but this relatively short book gives anyone a huge leg up in the art and science involved.

Great combination of teaching and reference

Coming from a primarily VB/VBA background into the world of C++, I needed something that would help be get up to speed on the syntax and concepts of C++. Because I had a programming background, I found myself using this book as more of a spot reference on how to do specific things in C++. However, there were many sorts of items that I was NOT used to using in programming at all that this book did an admirable job of helping me out with. Among those were the chapters on templates and specifically the STL. After moving through that chapter, I am now comfortable with actively using list, vector and queue containers.
My wife, on the other hand, has had zero programming experience or training. She has worked more than half way through the book (often covering 2 "days" in a few hours) and now has a decent knowledge of the contents of those chapters. Certainly, no book will ever replace actually DOING stuff over and over... but you can't know what to do until you have seen it in action. This book provides that.
The examples they use are simple when possible and complex when necessary. There is a nice format to this book in that there is a review section at the end of each chapter ("day") and then questions allowing you to actually create/debug code - with the answers in the back. Most of the time... if not close to all of the time... she was able to get those answers right on the first attempt.
I believe that, between the two of us with our vastly different experience and knowledge levels, we have found a book that covered both of our needs very well. Will it cover everything? No book can. Will it solve every little quirk you could ever have as a programmer? If you expect a book to do that, you shouldn't be a programmer in the first place. Will this book give you many tools - ranging from basic to advanced - with which you can become a serious C++ programmer? I believe it will.

From Wright brothers to rocket science!

My boss gave me the assignment to learn C++. He gave me a couple of books that he though were good. I banged my head against the keyboard many a night in pure frustration trying to absorb the material and searching the Web for additional help. I next tried an on line computer course by a noted and popular school. Everything was geared to people who already knew C. The material was dated. It was like trying to learn rocket science by studying the notes the Wright brothers wrote when they were trying to figure out which way a propeller should turn.
I finally came across Jesse's 3rd edition of "Leaning C++ in 21 Days" and life if beautiful again. His examples and easily read text gave me the knowledge to read code, and more important to understand it. The book takes the time to explain terms, definitions and the why's and wherefores of the C++ language. Particularly interesting to me was memory management and why I should be concerned about it. I no longer bang out code that "just" works. I assimilate the books ideas into programs that one may call an art form.
You will never know how grateful I am to have this book as a resource. I have scribbled in the margins, highlighted, dog-eared, paper clipped important pages, made a file of example programs and on long study nights used it as a pillow. I can't wait to get "C++ Unleashed" and abuse it in the same loving way!
If you don't have prior programming experience this book is a must. If you are a C programmer you need this book to get with the new way of doing programming!

Take both sides of the argument

Reading the reviews for this book it has become apparent that there are two very contradicting views on it. I must agree with the steep learning curve and the poor quality examples. The first few days (chapters) of the book I found were well written and easy to get a grasp of. However towards the latter part of the first week and the beginning of the second, the complexity of the examples and the explanations increased dramatically. Each of the later chapters really needs to be read over several days in order to properly understand it. It is a long haul, but ultimately I found it useful. Liberty backs up every point with at least one code example that really need to be written in and compiled in order to understand fully. The typos and errors in the code are suprising in a proffessional publication however identifying and correcting them I found helped me to understand better.
After finally finishing this book after 2 and a half months, I found I had just the sort of understanding of C++ that the book seems to promise. It is long winded and for the most part, difficult if you are inxperienced in programming but the very 'in depth' explanations do actually help you to really get to grips with the overall language. I feel that this book cannot really be given an x/5 rating. If you want a book that is an easy read and relatively smooth to get through this is not for you. However if you have the time (and patience) to work through it, you will definately be on your way to being a good C++ programmer.
I would recommend the Complete Compiler Edition of this book. The included CD's come with some useful exams to take after each chapter and all the source code (error free, thankfully) and some exercises using what you've learnt.
