This is the best IT careers prep book out there

Have you been looking for career that has upward mobility in terms of pay, benefits, and opportunities to work in a number of different settings? Information technology (IT) may be just the field for you.
But how do you get a foot in the door? What training do you need? And what job roles are available to you? Just about any question you might have is probably addressed in this short and highly readable book.
Gale Stafford is an IT professional at a major university who manages dozens of other technical workers. He started his IT career while a college student, helping to maintain the computers and software in the student computer labs.
"Getting Started in the Information Technology Field," Stafford's first book, is smart and to the point. It's written like a how-to manual and avoids getting bogged down in too much meaningless detail. For someone who wants a "next step" guide to a career in computers, this book is a must-read.
- Stafford addresses the issue of how much schooling is necessary vs. what a person can learn on their own or through short courses geared toward certification such CompTIA A+ and Network+.
- The book takes a walk through the many roles and job descriptions of IT workers, as well as the skills that ensure success in a professional organization.

Great book on different IT fields

This book provides a good deal of information on the different fields in IT as well as their strenghts and benefits. The part that I enjoyed the most was the through process and thinking that IT people have to perform their jobs. I would strongly recommend this book, especially to college students that want to get into the IT field.

This book is chock full of sound advice, from defining different fields in IT, to characteristics of successful IT professionals, to starting salary expectations, career paths, and the standard interview/resume/social interaction tactics and strategies.
